By Air and Car-Hire

The new Brive airport (Brive-Souillac / Vallée de la Dordogne - not Brive Laroche which is virtually obsolete) is only 41km from the house, and opened in June 2010.  Not served by many airlines, but growing.  Car hire is good.    http://www.aeroport-brive-vallee-dordogne.com
 
The best-served airport is Limoges, which has flights all year round from Stansted, Luton, Gatwick and other provincial airports (some peak season only).  Limoges is 1 hr 45 min north of the house, and is an easy drive.  Car hire is reasonably priced.  Search on your preferred airline.
 
Also in the high season you can fly to Rodez from Stansted (Ryanair), which is 2 hours south of the house, car-hire tends to be cheaper.  

Finally, there is Toulouse airport, about 2.5 hours drive.  Well served like Limoges.

  

By Car

From the South of England (M4 corridor) you are about 11 hours door-to-door.  Years of experience suggests the following tips for the top:
 
1.  Take the Tunnel for speed and ease.
2.  Your route to Brivezac should then be Calais, Rouen, Evreux, Dreux, Chartres, Orleans, Limoges - and then down the A20, getting off at Jn 52.  This is not motorway all the way, but is very dependable (unlike a route involving Paris, which CAN be quicker but is a high risk to your relationship if it goes wrong).
3.  Final part is 45 mins of country roads.  From Jn 52 of the A20, head towards Noailles, past Collonges la Rouge towards Beaulieu and turn off to Brivezac. 
4.  As you enter Brivezac (you’ve been driving with the river on your right), you will go over a couple of speedbumps.  You will pass the ancient church on your right, and as you clear the church there is a fork to the right, into a paved village "square" area.  Drive slowly down that fork across the paved area - you will have farm buildings on your right.  About 100m ahead is a white house, with exterior steps and a first floor balustraded terrace.  This is Chez Wood.  Park on the other side of the house where there is ample gravelled parking (easiest to reverse in). 
 
A nice alternative is if you go Portsmouth-Le Havre or Portsmouth-Cherbourg by ferry, you can do it overnight (in a cabin) and then you're about 6.5 hours driving to the door.
 

By Train

You can take the Eurostar to Paris, and take a train to Brive station - and then on to Biars-sur-Cere if you want to get picked up closer to the house (only 10km from Brivezac).  This is a great option if someone is joining or leaving you part way through your stay.
